Publication Ethics

The Journal of Food, Nutrition, and Health Advances (JFNH Advances) is dedicated to maintaining the highest ethical standards in scientific publishing. This statement is based on the Core Practices developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and aims to provide transparent guidelines for authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher to ensure academic integrity.

1. Allegations of Misconduct

JFNH Advances takes all allegations of research or publication misconduct seriously. This includes plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, and citation manipulation. All submitted manuscripts are screened using Turnitin. If misconduct is suspected pre-publication or post-publication, the Editorial Board will follow COPE flowcharts to investigate the matter. The journal reserves the right to reject the manuscript, issue corrections, or retract published articles if misconduct is proven.

2. Authorship and Contributorship

Authorship must be strictly limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study.

  • All co-authors must have approved the final version of the paper and agreed to its submission.

  • The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all appropriate co-authors are included and that there are no "ghost" or "gift" authorships.

  • Any changes to the authorship list after submission require written consent from all original authors.

3. Complaints and Appeals

The journal provides a transparent mechanism for authors to appeal editorial decisions or file complaints regarding the peer-review process. Complaints should be directed to the Chief Editor via the official institutional email. The Editorial Board will review the appeal objectively, involving independent reviewers if necessary, to ensure fairness and adherence to journal policies.

4. Conflicts of Interest / Competing Interests

Transparency is crucial in scientific publishing.

  • Authors must disclose any financial, commercial, or personal relationships that could inappropriately influence their work or be perceived as a conflict of interest.

  • Reviewers must decline to review manuscripts if they have competing interests arising from competitive or collaborative relationships with any of the authors or affiliated institutions.

  • Editors will recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where they have a conflict of interest.

5. Data and Reproducibility

Authors are strongly encouraged to make their underlying research data publicly available to promote transparency and reproducibility. When appropriate, authors should deposit their datasets in recognized public repositories and provide a data availability statement within their manuscript. Authors must be prepared to provide raw data to the Editorial Board during the review process if requested.

6. Ethical Oversight (Crucial for Health & Medical Sciences)

Research involving human participants, medical data, or animal subjects must comply with international ethical standards (e.g., the Declaration of Helsinki).

  • Human Subjects: Authors must state explicitly in the methodology section that the study was approved by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) or a recognized local Ethics Committee. Documented informed consent must be obtained from all participants.

  • Animal Subjects: Studies involving animals must state the ethical guidelines followed and provide the ethics committee approval number.

  • The journal reserves the right to reject manuscripts that lack adequate ethical clearance.

7. Intellectual Property

JFNH Advances is an Open Access journal. All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) license. Authors retain full copyright and publishing rights to their work without restrictions. The journal protects authors' intellectual property while ensuring the free dissemination of scientific knowledge.

8. Journal Management

Mitra Akademia Indonesia, as the publisher, ensures that editorial decisions are entirely independent of commercial or financial interests. Advertising, reprint revenues, or Article Processing Charges (APCs) do not influence the editorial decision-making process. The publisher works alongside the Editorial Board to maintain the journal's technological and ethical infrastructure.

9. Peer Review Process

All research articles undergo a rigorous, objective, and fair Single-Blind Peer Review process by at least two independent experts in the relevant field. Reviewers are expected to provide constructive, evidence-based feedback without personal criticism. The Editorial Board maintains the confidentiality of the review process and protects the identities of both authors and reviewers.

10. Post-Publication Discussions and Corrections

The journal encourages academic debate and post-publication discussions. If significant errors or inaccuracies are discovered in a published article—either by the authors or third-party readers—the journal will promptly publish an Erratum or Corrigendum. In cases involving severe ethical breaches or invalid scientific conclusions, the journal will issue a formal Retraction in accordance with COPE guidelines.
